Case Histories
Case History One
- Special Application: Valves Designed for Zebra Mussel Control
- Customer: Electric Utility
- Plant/Facility Type: Fossil Fuel Generating Stations
- Pratt designed and manufactured a variety of large diameter circular and rectangular butterfly valves for use in re-circulating hot water systems for zebra mussel control via thermal treatment.
Case History Two
- Special Application: Earthquake Proof Valves
- Customer: Municipal Water Works
- Plant/Facility Type: Large Water Storage Tank
- Pratt designed and manufactured hydraulically actuated valves for a water storage application so that the valves would automatically operate in the event of an earthquake. This lead to the development of a valve that will withstand forces of up to 6G's.
Case History Three
- Special Application: Customized Actuation/ Isolation Valves
- Customer: Confidential client
- Plant/Facility Type: Decommissioning Facility
- Pratt designed and manufactured valves that would isolate a working chamber in the event of a nuclear emergency during the decommissioning of armed nuclear warheads. The valves are able to close in a millisecond using specially designed Pratt electro-pneumatic cylinder actuators.
Case History Four
- Special Application: Valves Designed for Harsh Environments
- Customer: Jet Engine Manufacturing Company
- Plant/Facility Type: Test Facility
- Pratt designed and manufactured a 144" diameter butterfly valve for the emergency cooling system at a jet engine test facility. The valve was designed to provide quick isolation to counteract the tremendous heat generated by the engines during testing.
Other unique applications:
- In the fire protection systems guarding the hangar for the President's jet Air Force One (UL groundhogs and posts)
- At the White House (blast valves for explosion isolation)
- Guarding B1B bomber hangars (PIVAs)
- Catastrophe Canyon at MGM/Disney World (rectangular valves)
- Nuclear Power Plants around the world
- At the world's largest water treatment plant (Chicago at Navy Pier)
- At international airports across the US
- In the air conditioning system at the World Trade Center in New York City
- Disney's Wild Animal Park in Florida
